TECHNIQUE
Hand sewn unsupported link stitch with a Fraynot hinge attachment. Full fair goatskin hand dyed with leather dyes and foil tooled. Leather joints. Fly leaves and doublures painted and printed. Acrylic wash to the edges and foil tooled. Double silk headbands.
DESIGN
I wanted this binding to reflect the overall mood of this dystopian novel; a tale set in a place that is in a state of perpetual war. A fragmented society filled with suspicion and misery. The colours represent the grey food, greasy gin and coffee stains. The tooled numbers orderly yet chaotic with a flash of scarlet for the “chastity sash”.
